The construction works of this baroque style church started in 1674 and ended in 1703. The interior has a single nave with five altars. Behind the high altar there is a walnut choir above which it is possible to admire the painting of Saint Philip Benizi, founder of the Order of the Servants. The walls are adorned with statues of Saints in stucco, and on the right-hand wall, half way along the nave, is a ceramic "tile" of the Neapolitan school representing the “Nursing Madonna” and a painting portraying Saint Peregrine Latiosi. The convent, adjacent to the ancient city walls, completed in 1667 with the purpose of housing the Order of the Poor Clares, was then given to the Servants of Mary in 1673. The two cloisters inside are worth a visit as well as the valuable library with over ten thousand volumes, a precious canvas depicting Pope Marcellus II (1832), and also the Sacred Art Museum which is in the underlying grottos. Since 1995, it is seat of the Central Biblical Studies " Giovanni Vannucci", founded with the purpose of studying and spreading a cultural and religious message.
