In this building, on the 31 December 1894, the painter Cesare Peruzzi was born. The artist debuted in Rome in 1915 on the occasion of the Third International Show of the Secession. He exhibited together with masters such as Degas, Cezanne, Renoir, Guidi and Casorati. It was the beginning of a flourishing, intense career full of awards with over 250 personal exhibitions (the last took place in Recanati in 1994). His painting had deep roots in the art of the 1800s. He was strongly influenced by the impressionists and always directed much of his attention to problems of light and colour which were the main ingredients of his paintings. Peruzzi’s connection to his birthplace (from 1927 he lived in Recanati) is unquestionably traced to the works present in the chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows in the Collegiate Church of Montelupone and in the Civic Art Gallery where he displayed some of his paintings including a Self Portrait painted in 1991. He passed away in Recanati in 1995.
